The Names & Meaning of The WaxPrint Designs on Our African Print Fabrics.

Some say its not African print because it was the Dutch (Vlisco) who brought it to our shores. So what were we wearing before they did? I would have to find that out. But what I know is that most of these prints have a story behind the designs. There are some fabrics with designs dating way back in my great grandmother’s time and possibly before. A few of these can still be seen today.

Why is it that some patterns have tortoises on them and some parade large fans in bold and dazzling colors? Its easy to see fingers, lipstick, elephants, birds etc in the array of patterns on our African print. I was curious to find out what each meant, after all its what we wear and there has to be more to the story of the designs on our African print.

This is a perfect meal for breakfast and an early evening meal for those  not wanting to eat heavy. Mushrooms are currently in season in the country which makes it a perfect time to make all kinds of dishes. The vegetable which is gluten-free, cholesterol free, fat-free and low in calories and very low in sodium provides important nutrients such as selenium, niacin and vitamin D.  Mixing this with more vegetables was guaranteed to see me through my busy schedule for the day which included a visit to the printers

Easy to Make - Gari Foto

I hadn’t made gari fortor in a long while. Its just one of those dishes which isn’t regular in my home. Its not like jollof which we can prepare at least once a week, four times a month. It has a low shelf-life thanks to the possibility of the gari losing its freshness. But I had stated my intention on Instagram so here I was standing in my dumsor-free kitchen preparing the dish which can look deceptively like jollof from a distance. Get closer and you will be disappointed.

The Mental & Physical Health Impact of Dumsor on The Lifestyle of Ghanaians- An Interview With Psychologist Dr. Annie Gaisie

There's been endless conversations about how the energy crisis in Ghana has led to job-cuts, business closures, demonstrations and the deepening of the daily struggles of the average Ghanaian.

But there hasn't been much talk around how this crisis is affecting the mental and physical health of the citizens. We cannot ignore the fact that people being laid off, businesses being closed down can lead to serious health effects and it thus falls on us to be aware of how to prevent or reduce the risks to such exposure.

I interviewed Dr. Annie-Gaisie, a renowned psychologist to share more of her knowledge on how dumsor is affecting the mental and physical health of Ghanaians.

PHOTOS: The Accra Vintage Car Show

Total Ghana sponsored the Accra Vintage Car Show which was held this weekend with a strong focus on the theme INTEGRITY.

The show started with a round-about-town procession on the principal streets of Accra and finally ending at the Accra Polo Court for public display. The vintage cars privately owned by Ghanaians attested to how much love and care had gone into preserving the timeless brands of major car makers.

10 Quotes on Gender Inequality

As part of my contribution towards the global blogging day, #BAD14 (even though I am a day late :( ) I collated the best quotes on gender equality & inequality and how many people (men and women) are discriminated against because of their sex. I chose gender inequality because it beats my imagination why a woman or man who is qualified to do a job and take a certain position is discriminated against for being that gender. What matters should be if they can actually perform at that task excellently. These quotes express the sentiments of global leaders and personalities from different countries and backgrounds.

The Must-See Men's Street Style At The New York Fashion Week

The Lincoln Center was flooded with fashion bloggers, freelance photographers, personal stylists and fashion peacocks all looking to photograph or to be photographed, to pin or be pinned. Its easy to focus one's lens on the women fashion and forget the men street style on display as well. And boy were they dressed to the fashion nines! The men had something important to say in all kinds of blazers, fedora hats, ankle pants (trousers), lapel pins and it went on and on! Their style ranged from laid-back casual to personal gothic. I got to speak to a few of the Gentry on their wear and naturally captured their looks as well. Enjoy the fashion eye candy.
