Over the years, bride price has changed / evolved from family to family. There are some commonalities, which can be found in most families. Have you stopped to wonder what each bride price item really means? I am referring to the more traditional items and not the iPads and laptops demanded by some families. I had a chat with one of my Aunties to find out exactly what goes into the bride price for our family (GA by the way) and according to her this was the list presented to my cousin who was getting married then to a Fante man. The list differs from tribe to tribe in Ghana.

A question I have asked myself over the years when I found myself in a relationship. A relationship which I wouldn’t describe as dubious but one which nevertheless made me think. When you are a 30 year old woman and yet to walk down the aisle its interesting how the whole world seems to give you suggestions on whats good for you in terms of a man of course. What is it about Dumsor that it makes one lose vim to do anything productive? Even if that thing doesn't involve the use of electricity? Sighs! Thats exactly how I felt just when I was about to dive into making this Mango and Avocado salsa, totally killed my vim mood and I moved the recipe to the next day. #DumsorMustReallyStop ! 

Soo... have great 10 minutes fun trying out this salsa which rocks with seafood or grilled chicken! Yummy!

When I was asked if I wanted to be a “GangLeader”  for a blogwalk as part of #blogcamp15, I saw it as an opportunity to do something different and exciting! After all how many times did I get the chance to capture a suburb of Kumasi with my own gang members? Like never.

#SuameGang, #AsafoGang and #AdumGang were the three gangs  set to pitch against each other to determine the best gang to have the best and most photos of a suburb in Kumasi. After much planning and strategizing, my gang #SuameGang won! What a feeling it was too! We had worked hard, walked through mazes of Suame magazine metalwork shops and foundries and communicated pretty well for a group in which many people had never each other before until the walk.

I learnt some very valuable lessons whilst I was a GangLeader of the #SuameGang which I would I believe helped in helping us to win

Its that time of year where fashionistas, fashion bloggers, fashion labels, beauty brands and food vendors gather to eat, shop, take selfies and do more shopping! #Fghshop an initiative by FashionistaGh has been an annual shopping festival in Ghana for the past three years. Some say its not African print because it was the Dutch (Vlisco) who brought it to our shores. So what were we wearing before they did? I would have to find that out. But what I know is that most of these prints have a story behind the designs. There are some fabrics with designs dating way back in my great grandmother’s time and possibly before. A few of these can still be seen today. 

Why is it that some patterns have tortoises on them and some parade large fans in bold and dazzling colors? Its easy to see fingers, lipstick, elephants, birds etc in the array of patterns on our African print. I was curious to find out what each meant, after all its what we wear and there has to be more to the story of the designs on our African print.

This is a perfect meal for breakfast and an early evening meal for those  not wanting to eat heavy. Mushrooms are currently in season in the country which makes it a perfect time to make all kinds of dishes. The vegetable which is gluten-free, cholesterol free, fat-free and low in calories and very low in sodium provides important nutrients such as selenium, niacin and vitamin D.  Mixing this with more vegetables was guaranteed to see me through my busy schedule for the day which included a visit to the printers

I hadn’t made gari fortor in a long while. Its just one of those dishes which isn’t regular in my home. Its not like jollof which we can prepare at least once a week, four times a month. It has a low shelf-life thanks to the possibility of the gari losing its freshness. But I had stated my intention on Instagram so here I was standing in my dumsor-free kitchen preparing the dish which can look deceptively like jollof from a distance. Get closer and you will be disappointed.

I interviewed Dr. Annie-Gaisie, a renowned psychologist to share more of her knowledge on how dumsor is affecting the mental and physical health of Ghanaians.

Total Ghana sponsored the Accra Vintage Car Show which was held this weekend with a strong focus on the theme INTEGRITY. 

The show started with a round-about-town procession on the principal streets of Accra and finally ending at the Accra Polo Court for public display. The vintage cars privately owned by Ghanaians attested to how much love and care had gone into preserving the timeless brands of major car makers.
