FashionistaGh held its annual shopping festival once again and it was still an unmissable event. The three day shopping festival #fghshop2015 was all hustle and bustle in the bristling 33 degree heat. Despite numberous air-conditioning, the heat just refused to leave the white enclave drenching both vendors and buyers in uncompromising sweat! Nevertheless both participants had a grand time strolling through hundreds of stands and emptying their pockets for the latest African fashion and accessories.

Its happening once again at the International Trade Fair Centre, Pavilion A and starts from 10am to 8pm each day.

The euphoria has almost waned out for many Ghanaian bloggers who attended the glitzy purply social media awards night organised by Blogging Ghana at the serene Coconut Grove Regency Hotel. My euphoria however is still on cloud 6, as I got to do something different this year! I was given the spot of holding red-carpet interviews with the invited guests, nominees and bloggers before the show started. That was a memorable experience and actually came close to being an E! show!

The first Mandela Washington Fellowship Conference was held in Accra recently and the event brought together a great number of young leaders from 21 West African countries. The conference was organised to bring together the young leaders of YALI (Young African Leaders Intiative) to enable them to share their expertise and engage on issues which they have defined as critical for the future of Africa. 

The first day's session, saw prominent leaders such as U.S Ambassador to Ghana, Gene A. Cretz, Deputy Minister of Education Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Patrick Awuah Jr, Founder of Ashesi University, Ghana.

Award nights are very often glitzy with bright lights, paparazzi’s popping flash, fashion on fleek and fashion on fail, with swag dripping on the red carpet which will take days to clean out. Think, Oscars, MTV Awards and Ghana Music Awards.

I am envisioning something similar for the Ghana Blogging and Social Media Awards Night, more especially on the fashion side of things. Why? Because this year is going to stylish and on a more formal note compared to the previous sessions held.

Some say its not African print because it was the Dutch (Vlisco) who brought it to our shores. So what were we wearing before they did? I would have to find that out. But what I know is that most of these prints have a story behind the designs. There are some fabrics with designs dating way back in my great grandmother’s time and possibly before. A few of these can still be seen today. 

Why is it that some patterns have tortoises on them and some parade large fans in bold and dazzling colors? Its easy to see fingers, lipstick, elephants, birds etc in the array of patterns on our African print. I was curious to find out what each meant, after all its what we wear and there has to be more to the story of the designs on our African print.

I hadn’t made gari fortor in a long while. Its just one of those dishes which isn’t regular in my home. Its not like jollof which we can prepare at least once a week, four times a month. It has a low shelf-life thanks to the possibility of the gari losing its freshness. But I had stated my intention on Instagram so here I was standing in my dumsor-free kitchen preparing the dish which can look deceptively like jollof from a distance. Get closer and you will be disappointed.

There's been endless conversations about how the energy crisis in Ghana has led to job-cuts, business closures, demonstrations and the deepening of the daily struggles of the average Ghanaian. 

But there hasn't been much talk around how this crisis is affecting the mental and physical health of the citizens. We cannot ignore the fact that people being laid off, businesses being closed down can lead to serious health effects and it thus falls on us to be aware of how to prevent or reduce the risks to such exposure. 

I interviewed Dr. Annie-Gaisie, a renowned psychologist to share more of her knowledge on how dumsor is affecting the mental and physical health of Ghanaians.
