How To Plan An Easy DIY Home Spa PlayDate For Girls

Believe me when I say it’s really easy and not as daunting as it sounds though you’ll need to have a bit of background to some of the ingredients to share with your young pretend clients.

A week ago, my daughter had a sudden ‘craving’ for spa day at home, I honestly have no idea when that dawned on her but I was faced with a 6yr old begging to make it happen. When I finally agreed to it, she was all thrilled and said, “I need to invite one friend👆🏽! Only one! Pulleeaseee!” If you’ve met my daughter you’ll know she’s got the most puppy magic eyes in the world! It’s very difficult turning her down when she turns that look on. I agreed and mentally planned on the day ahead as it was also midterms. I decided I wasn’t going to spend money on this home spa treatment. God knows how Accra prices of late currently look even in the face of a cedi appreciation. The day came and it was such a fun relaxing experience for she and her bestie. I mean the reviews was endlessly 5 stars!

Here’s how you can also plan a similar experience for your child’s next playdate activity with her friend(s). It also makes for a fantastic birthday activity for small groups of friends. You’ll need a few things to make the day succuessful and hopefully you’ll have most of these at home already.

What You’ll Need For A Home Spa Day

You can actually choose to create a luxurious experience for them or go the thrift DIY route which I personally chose.

  • Location: Your child’s bedroom or the living room? Whichever location you choose, ensure it’s spacious for easy movement, lying down and has curtains for creating a dim spa room.

  • Key Items:

    • Essential oils: like lavender, lemon oil to mix with coconut oil for creating a hand, face and arm massage oil. Also add a few drops to the bowl of warm water.

    • Shea butter: For massaging the feet

    • Face masks: If you can find a sheet face mask or have one already, great! If not you can make an organic face mask by combining oatmeal, honey and sugar or an avocado face mask.

    • Towels: Large enough towels to wrap around their bodies whilst wearing their clothes and towels for head wraps.

    • Cucumber slices: Is it a spa experience without cucumber slices?

    • Large bowl: fill this with warm water to wash their feet in like how Jesus got that spa treatment from Mary of Bethany. Grab a few petals from your garden for colour and exotic island vibes.

    • Kitchen towels: For cleaning up spills and splashes

    • Nail polish: only allowed in my house during holidays.

    • Spa soothing music: Spotify has several playlists for spa and massage music.

    • Juice boxes: Grab these from your fridge or pantry. Serve the juice in fance unbreakable glasses. I had these plastic cocktail glasses which were simply perfect! Drop a few slices of fresh fruit and you’re good to go!

Prep the space you choose for the spa day.

Start by closing the curtains to create a dim atmosphere just like how most spa spaces are. Ensure the bed or couch you’ll be using is free from clutter. Start playing the relaxing spa music of choice and let your ‘young’ clients take off their shoes and tie their towels around their bodies, assist them if you can. Fill the bowl with warm water and the flower petals, a few drops of essential oil for fragrance and giggles. Take time to explain your process to them. Let them lie back and relax.

Facial Masks

Apply the wet face mask gently on their faces with the cucumber slices on their eyes. If you don’t have this just go with the oatmeal mask and use a popsicle stick or the back of a spoon to apply the mask whilst avoiding their eyes. You can do a skin test for allergies before this though. Explain what the facial masks does and ask how it feels to them. You’re bound to hear ‘it’s soo relaxing and coooll!!” The facial mask can be taken off in 5 minutes. Children’s attention and interest span is very limited especially 5 to 6 year olds.

Massaging

Mix a teaspoon of coconut oil and 3 drops of lemon oil, use this to massage their hands and arms with gently kneading. It’s good to ask them if you’re pressing too hard or otherwise. Feedback is very important, Mama.

Steaming Towel

Boil some water, mix with a bit of cold water and dip a towel in this and wring it out. Explain to them that you’re going to apply this on their face to remove all the dead skin cells on their face and it might feel a little hot. Prepping them before undertaking an action helps them to be more relaxed. Trust me, they’ll love the steaming towel so much! Apply a little coconut oil after the steaming oil for extra moisturizing.

Nail Care *Optional

Massage their feet with shea butter before the nail polish for extra shine and moisturizing. Do the nails last to prevent any smudges in all the excitement. Just a few dabs are guaranteed to get you elevated to MOTHER in their eyes!

Juice Mocktails

Pour the juice into the fancy unbreakable cups/glasses, garnish with apple slices or fresh mint, add straws and tell them to close their eyes before you present these drinks. The squeals make it worth it! Would you believe this is Kalypo ? Fancy right?

So simple and yet the experience was very much one for the books for them. One thing about children is how it takes very little to bring out a smile from them. It's really the little things . No wonder we're commanded to be as little children in our walk with Christ.

The delight and constant “This is the best day ever!” kept ringing in my ears. At one point, I stopped halfway and thought to myself, “This should be me getting this treatment!” Now I have to make it happen for myself as this mama is beyond exhausted.

As parents let's make time to enjoy our children's childhood instead of doom scrolling on TikTok at the end of a work day. They grow up so fast that it's easy to miss out on key milestones and experiences which you'd never get back.

Anyway, I hope you’ve taken down some pointers for your very own home spa day for the girls. If you enjoyed this post, do share and leave a comment below. Thanks for reading! 🩷
